Winged Eyeliner Tutorial inspired by Dolce & Gabbana Models
One of the highlights of Milan Fashion Week for me was undoubtably the opulence of Dolce & Gabbana's collection and the gorgeous makeup sported by the Models. The looks were characterised by strong brows, deep berry lips topped off with the perfect winged eyeliner, also known as the cat eye!
I've been watching monthly favorite videos on youtube for a little while now because its a great way to find new products to incorporate into your beauty routine or just to be nosy and see what everyone has been using or loving that particular month. It was in one of Shirley's that I discovered the Simple Kind to skin moisturising facial wash, its not a product I have tried before to be honest but I'm glad I did. It makes a change from the exfoliating face washes I normally go for and its nice to give my skin a break from all that scrubbing!
Check out the rest of my monthly favorites in the video below.
I'm always on the hunt for new things to add to my beauty arsenal, so pray tell ...
Have you been loving anything in particular this month?
Hi guys! One of my favorite things to do is to browse streetstyle blogs - it so interesting to see how real people are translating the trends we see on the runway and in the magazines! So I was inspired to start a new segment on my blog called
HOW WE ARE ROCKING IT!
That has a nice ring to it doesn't it? The aim is to show you how we are all rocking the trends in every day life and I'll usually show you how I'm rocking the trend too!
First stop, the court shoe!
The old staple has gotten a new lease of life this spring season. Rock the court shoe in its classic pointy form, or go for the bright or multi tonal versions seen on the streets!
I've been looking to get a pair of bright court shoes myself but until I decide on a colour, I'll be rocking my gold cap faux snakeskins from Topshop!
What do you think about this new segment and do you own any courts?
Hallo! You would have noticed that a glowing face, winged eye and bright/dark lipstick are my thing. However, it was my cousin's birthday the other day and I really wanted to try something different. I had some time to play around with my urban decay palettes (fun and black) and came up with the look above. I just could not resist pairing the blue and gold smokey eye with a soft red lip!
What do you think?
I was quite pleased with how it turned out. I've just ordered a whole bunch of makeup brushes from elf cosmeticsso that should get me more hyped to do tutorials, so if you are interested let me know!
I didn't manage to take a full length picture of my outfit, but its shown in the ootn video below along with an equally better look at the makeup. Be warned! There is a bit of dancing and singing into a hairbrush in the video - I got a bit carried away with filming! But to be honest, which girl doesn't sing and dance along to music before a night out? :-P
Maki Oh's video above elicited a range of emotions from me. I was instantly transported to my early years sat on the living room floor while my mum threaded my hair for the school week ahead. My grandma was usually sat in the corner, wrapper around her waist, tickled by the fact that I was wriggling around so much. She knew I would be getting my ears clipped in a second and I really just wanted to at least watch the cartoons on the screen.
I hated that hair style.
Even more so when I came to England on holiday and my cousins wondered what was going on with my hair! *sigh* memories.
I absolutely love the fact that the traditional threading technique is the inspiration behind Maki Oh's 2013 ready-to-wear collection. Maki Osakwe, the designer behind the label, manages to weave nigerian tradition effortlessly in to the lean modern designs of this new collection. The collection is one of the best I've seen so far from a Nigerian designer. I would wear EVERY. SINGLE. PIECE with delight.
Blog Love: The4acesdate - Abby,Cookie, Kaven and Ozzy
I remember when my friend rang me about 2 years ago and asked if I'd seen the blog of some "FABULOUS" girl called Abby, I hopped on over to Abby's blog (link) and spent the next few minutes admiring her posts cooing on the phone over her style.
Then hold up...
She posts a link to a blog she shares with three other girls Cookie, Kaven and Ozzy - and that was it ladies and gents, my evening was a wrap! I had found new style and beauty crushes, and have been hooked ever since!
It's a lot brighter in the mornings and I'm looking forward to being properly able to ditch the tights and jackets. For now, as requested, I thought I'd show you how I plan to style the monochrome fashion trend this spring season. I also had to make some use of all the monochrome pieces I have been buying lately lol (haul video here).
The key thing for me with styling monochrome is not being afraid to accessorise with lots of bright colours, whether it be with your makeup (cant go wrong with a red lip) and/or accessories. Done nicely, it always looks good and adds a nice contrast to what could otherwise be a boring black and white palette.
I also think you can also mix things up with clashing black and white prints. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything appropriate in my wardrobe to demonstrate this but have a look at my video below for my styling in motion! You can tell I got a bit carried away making the video as it took me absolutely AGES to make as I was so busy and was being stupidly pedantic lol, so if you enjoy it please let me know and make my day!
Outfit details as described in the video:
The dressed up shirt dress:
Topshop stripe split side tee - I love that this is only £15 and so versatile!: (available here)
Primark sandals: Primark dont have a website but Im pretty sure Ive seen this pair of heels in the store lately. I got them last year but Im quite certain they are still around. Only £12 too!
Work Chrome:
Checkered Blouse: Vintage - I got this top for only one euro the last time I was in Paris. I got loads of things from the vintage stores so you can check them out here if you want.
Basic Skirt: Forever 21
Zara Mid heel court shoes: These are the same ones in my last monochrome haul. I love the Mesh detailing against the suede, its more visible on the Zara site (here)
I was looking at my recent purchases the other day and realised that most of the things I'd been buying fit in perfectly with Spring's latest fashion trend. I've already done posts on some of the items I purchased, like my fire engine red buckle Zara sandals (posthere), but check out my video for more pieces.
They don't call it a fashion haul for nothing, my biceps seem to have amazing tone this week just from lugging all those shopping bags! Thankfully, most of the items I got were reasonably priced, so rest assured that pretty much anyone can afford shop the trend.
Again, like I said in the video, this is a good time to shop for clothes that will last you through many seasons to come (depending on the quality of the clothes you purchase obviously) because the colour palette is so basic. I mean, you just cant go wrong with black or white and no one is going to tell you it is out of style next year, so if you like something, buy it! (as long as you can afford it though lol)
Let me know what you think about the clothes and accessories I got, especially if anything is a NAY!
Casual Outfit of the Day - Running round the Intercontinetal
I love it when my friends are in town! My friend came over from the states this weekend so this is what I wore to visit her at the Intercontinental. I don't know why I look so mad lol, I was very happy in fact!
Anyway, my dress was one of my latest finds from Forever 21. I love how casual it is, it is a loose jersey material so feel free to pig out wearing one of these. I loved it so much I got it in black too - I hardly ever do that.
You can find the dress here - I couldn't find the grey or black one on the Forever 21 website but the Teal and Tomato would be nice for when the weather gets warmer
Maybe it's because they are so simple, stylish and match almost everything in my wardrobe, or maybe its because they also remind me of Gucci's Victoire Robin Red Patent Sandals (pictured in the bottom left of the picture). Either way they are a welcome addition to my wardrobe and I can't wait to wear them this spring!
You'd have to have been blind not to have noticed that Monochrome is a big fashion trend for Spring/Summer 2013.
It is a trend that I'm very pleased about because the black and white colour palette is a wardrobe stable for me and one that transcends seasons. This means there are plenty items in the shops now that I'd love to add to my wardrobe to last me for quite a while!
Here is my current fashion wishlist *drool*, my favorite thing to do with monochrome is to add a pop of colour to add an extra edge to the outfit.
This denim shirt from Topshop is not really a denim shirt, its a cotton shirt that looks like denim. I love the wearability this affords, the texture is not as hard as normal denim so it can be worn with a range of different styles including myleather skater skirtalso from Topshop.
I didn't realise how much I wear Topshop until I started my blog, I love that store because there seems to be something for everybody! Anyway, my boots were from Zara in the sale for only a tenner :-)
Check out my ootd video on youtube below, please let me know if you liked it!
Drugstore Haul! Beauty and Skincare Products from Boots
Hallo, Hallo!
Somehow I tend to find myself in either Boots or Superdrugat least once a week no matter how hard I try to resist. You always NEED something right? Maybe thats why our american friends call them 'drugstores' haha. Anyway here is a video showing you some beauty and skincare products that I have purchased recently, complete with a massive cheshire cat grin.
Am I the only one who cant seem to walk past those shops without buying something?
At 5'9, I am not really one to live in heels during the day! I adore flats almost as much as I love my heels and it seems as though I've been lusting over the valentino rockstuds pictured for AGES! However, they are just (haha) beyond my budget at over £600, so when I saw a similar pair in Topshop I was quite ecstatic!
Predicted to be a major trend for this spring/summer, Monochrome is everywhere already! I don't mind though. I embrace the simplicity and I think you really cannot go wrong with black and white especially when topped off with a bold lip!
So when I saw this dressin Topshop I was immediately drawn to it! I like the fact that the striped panels go both ways. The horizontal stripes give the illusion of hips and are perfect for smaller girls. Fortunately/unfortunately I don't really need that much help in that area :-)
